The internship can be undertaken remotely outside the duty station or in a hybrid working arrangement from the UN Premise at the New York City, USA, duty station.

3-6 months. Desired start date is 25 August 2024, or sooner. 

Duties and Responsibilities


 

This position is located in the Light Coordination Mechanism (LCM), in the Integrated Training Service (ITS) within the Division of Policy, Evaluation and Training (DPET) in the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The intern reports to the LCM Team Leader.    The LCM facilitates bilateral and multilateral capacity-building partnerships for troop-and police-contributing countries (T/PCCs) in support of peacekeepers’ performance, safety and security. Capacity-building activities include training, equipment, infrastructure, knowledge management, financial and logistical support.    Each year, the LCM consults Member States through a survey on the latest capacity-building offers and needs for uniformed personnel deploying to UN peacekeeping operations.    The intern will support this initiative as well as other projects led by the LCM. Tasks will include, but are not limited to:   - Assistance in updating and circulating the LCM annual capacity-building survey;   - Assistance in liaising with Member States on the survey and other LCM initiatives; - Assistance with data collection and analysis, including through the drafting of a survey analysis;   - Assistance in preparing presentations and visualizations; - Attendance and note taking at meetings and conferences; - Assistance in developing talking points and briefing documents as relevant; - Assistance in organizing meetings and conferences; - Assistance with information management and development of communication materials; - Assistance in editing and formatting reports and other documents; - Assistance with any other task as required.

Languages


 

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
