Duties and Responsibilities

The Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT) was inaugurated on 16 June 2006 as a regional institute of Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and is located in Incheon, Republic of Korea. Guided by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other internationally agreed development goals, the Centre's objective is to build and strengthen the capacity of members and associate members of ESCAP to leverage information and communication (ICT) for the purpose of socio-economic development. APCICT's work is focused on training, knowledge sharing, and multi-stakeholder dialogue and partnership. The Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT/ESCAP) internship is for a minimum period of 2 months with an opportunity for extension up to 6 months, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Drafting and editing content for public information materials, including social media posts; • Proposing new projects for the website and social media platforms and identifying opportunities to reach a wider audience; • Providing assistance in improving the functionality of the website and e-learning page • Assisting in checking the website for broken pages or pages that are inconsistent with the design of the website; • Supporting the development of PHP web pages linked with DB and the download of DB values in a document format, e.g. excel spreadsheet; • Undertaking various researches as directed by the Supervisor by collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources; • Creating and designing reports using dashboards and data visualization tools; • Supporting the production of e-learning courses by reviewing multimedia contents and materials; • Assisting in administrative and substantive support to meetings and conferences, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics; etc.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. However, for the purpose of this internship, a keen interest in implement project and capacity building is a definite advantage. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
