The UN in Uganda

Uganda was admitted to United Nations membership on 25 October 1962, the same year the country attained independence. In the 1960s Uganda registered steady economic growth and development based mainly on exporting cash crops including coffee and cotton. In the 1970s to mid 1980s Uganda underwent sharp socio economic decline. During this period several UN development and humanitarian agencies began operations in Uganda.
