Org. Setting and Reporting

The Air Navigation Bureau (ANB) in ICAO is responsible for providing technical guidance to the Air Navigation Commission (ANC), the Council, and the Assembly. ANB provides technical expertise in aviation-related disciplines to States, industry and all elements of the Organization. ANB’s work programme is distributed within Air Navigation Capacity and Efficiency (AN), Aviation Safety (SAF) and Monitoring and Oversight (MO). SAF and AN are responsible for maintaining and implementing the Global Aviation Safety Plan (GASP) and Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP), as well as producing yearly safety and air navigation status reports. These areas within the Bureau develops technical studies and proposals for Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), and Procedures for Air Navigation Services (PANS) for further processing by the governing bodies of ICAO. The Bureau also develops related procedures and guidance material. The Implementation Support Planning and Coordination Section (ISPC) is part of the Air Navigation Bureau and report to the Deputy Director for Monitoring, Analysis and Coordination (MAC). ISPC is responsible for managing and coordinating implementation support activities developed and designed by the Bureau. Coordination of such activities involves interaction with other Sections, Bureaus as well as the Regional Offices. ISPC directly supports the regional offices in their work related to development of projects and activities to build capacity. ISPC also supports the funding of activities by managing implementation support related voluntary contributions and provides contribution management support to donors. The incumbent reports directly to C/ISPC with whom he/she consults on a regular basis. Staff members of ISPC and the Chief of ISPC may provide direct input and guidance to the work of the intern.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of C/ISPC, the intern will: • Contribute to the development and implementation of a dedicated implementation support platform (MS SharePoint); • Contribute to the development of information and recommendations to project plans, peer review reports, preparation and completion of project documents; • Contribute to the identification and monitoring of key performance indicators for implementation support activities; • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and briefings; • Assist in development and implementation of internal promotion activities; • Support in the preparation of outreach materials to communicate the results; • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Education

At the time of application, applicants are required to have enrolled at least in the first year of studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in aviation, law, science, engineering , diplomacy or related field.

Work Experience

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including word, excel and power point, is required. • Practical experience in using collaborative documentation processing tools or work management platforms, is desirable. • Knowledge of ICAO and its mandate, the aviation sector or the United Nations system, is desirable. • Practical experience in data processing, programming and web-design, is desirable.

Languages

Essential: Fluent reading, writing and speaking abilities in English. Desirable: A working knowledge of a second language of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

The ICAO Assembly recently reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing gender equality and the advancement of women’s development by supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 5, “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.” Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for ICAO positions, especially in the Professional and higher level categories. Interns are not paid. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern. The duration of the internship is between two to six months. The intern is expected to work five days a week, on a full-time basis. Interns shall not be eligible to be engaged in any other form of employment within ICAO during the period of internship and shall not be eligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in the Secretariat or be contracted for any other remunerated employment with ICAO for the six months immediately following the end of their internship.

In accordance with ICAO Staff Regulations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
