Organizational Setting and Reporting ICT and Development Section (IDS) under the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division (IDD) of ESCAP aims to bridge the digital divide and accelerate digital transformation by promoting digital connectivity, digital technology and applications, and digital data use in the Asia Pacific region through operating the Asia Pacific Information Superhighway (APIS) platform. To achieve these goals, IDS conducts evidence-based analytical research, capacity-building programmes, and demand-driven regional advisory services, and organizes intergovernmental policy dialogues for member States and partner organizations on ICT related agendas. The internship at the ICT and Development Section is from two months and up to six months. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Prospected interns are supposed to work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member of the Section in the office to which they are assigned. Daily responsibilities depend on the individual's background and the main work of the Section as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Research: Assist officers of the Section to conduct analytical research on various issues related to ICT and digital agendas for sustainable development including the Asia-Pacific Digital Transformation Report (for example, various issues linked to ICT such as digital connectivity, digital technologies and applications, digital data and statistics, disaster risk reduction, environment, education, gender, and innovative technologies). • Information and data: Compile, process and analyze information and data on ICT for development in Asia-Pacific, including Countries with Special Situations (LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS), which may require econometric skills and economic modeling approaches. • Programme and project: Support officers of the Section to implement programme and projects related to ICT in Asia and the Pacific region. • Website management: Support officers of the Section to update the Section work in the ESCAP website. • Organization of events: Support officers of the Section to organize inter-governmental meetings and regional workshops, which may include drafting a concept note and memos, contacting meeting participants, develop a draft programme, and other administrative tasks. • Other substantive and administrative tasks: Carry out other tasks as required by the Chief of the Section and the Division, including for the organization of the intergovernmental events.
